The first bathers enter the waters of the Seine

The first bathers enter the waters of the Seine

A first since 1923. Swimming in the Seine is once again permitted. The opening is under very strict supervision. Each swimmer must have their water skills assessed by a lifeguard before entering the water. Last year, 13 people drowned in the Seine.

Daily analyses are carried out. Green, orange, and red flags indicate the flow and quality of the water. More than €1.4 billion has been invested to improve water cleanliness. Several other bathing areas are planned for 2026, notably at Île Monsieur and Île Saint-Denis.
