A project that aims to transmit the values of respect and solidarity through sport was officially launched in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 20 during the UCI Bike City and Mobility 2025 Forum.

A 75-session teaching manual has been designed. Designed for cycling coaches, educators, and teachers, this tool is suitable for all levels of children, from their first pedal strokes to more advanced training. The "Ride & Learn" program focuses on three main areas: self-acceptance, acceptance of others, and social skills. This all began with a pilot project in Rwanda, the country that will host the first UCI Road World Championships on the African continent from September 21 to 28, 2025.

Champions who bring their know-how

The program benefits from the invaluable support of Peace and Sport's Champions for Peace. Colombian BMX Racing Olympic medalist Carlos Oquendo led workshops in his country for young people from vulnerable communities. Another medalist, this time in canoeing and kayaking, participated in the training of Rwandan educators: Benjamin Boukpeti from Togo.

Present at the Copenhagen Forum, the athletics legend in his discipline of the 800 meters, the three-time Danish world champion Wilson Kipketer, emphasized the importance of the role of elite athletes: "Athletes occupy a unique position to inspire the younger generation. I was the village champion before I became the world champion."

This methodology is an additional tool available to the 205 national federations affiliated with the UCI to develop cycling in their countries. It is also aimed at governments, ministries, NGOs, and cycling clubs working with young people around the world.
