The next country to host the Games of the Small States of Europe, the Principality, has made a strong impact in Andorra

Monaco has just achieved a real feat at these 20th Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE). The Monegasque delegation left Andorra with 44 medals – 16 gold, 13 silver, and 15 bronze – 11 more than in 2023 in Malta. This spectacular progression establishes this edition as one of the most successful. Monaco has never won so many titles away from home, surpassing its previous record set in 2019 in Montenegro (15 titles). This is the second-best campaign in the history of the GSSE, after the home edition in 2007 (19 gold). All the lights are green. The harvest was impressive, in many disciplines moreover: athletics, 3x3 basketball, cycling, artistic gymnastics, judo, swimming, rugby 7s, tennis, volleyball, and beach volleyball have multiplied the trinkets. Judo shone brightly, achieving a veritable sweep: 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze. Swimming was not far behind: 3 titles, but above all, a shower of podiums (6 silver and 8 bronze). Team sports also made their mark: gold for rugby 7s and the men's and women's beach volleyball teams. A simply exemplary performance for the 123 athletes, their coaches, and supervisors.

Heading for 2027, with a rich sports program

From May 3 to 8, 2027, the Principality will host the Games for the third time. The sports program will be rich, combining compulsory disciplines – athletics, judo, swimming, tennis, table tennis, shooting, 3x3 basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball – and additional events such as artistic gymnastics, sailing, boules, rugby 7s, and water polo.

The Monegasque Olympic Committee and the soon-to-be-formed organizing committee will now work tirelessly to prepare for this edition and properly welcome delegations from across Europe, while respecting Olympic values and friendship between nations. Monaco 2027 is already shaping up to be a great and wonderful celebration of sport, youth, and sharing. A new page in Monegasque sporting history is ready to be written.
