Tour de France: From 300 to 25,000 euros, these bonuses allow riders to increase their salaries

Since its departure from Lille, the Tour de France has, as it does every year, offered its share of bonuses to stage hunters and distinctive jerseys.
3,338.8 kilometers to cover, and what financial rewards at the finish? Since Saturday, July 5, the riders (184 spread across 23 teams) starting the Tour de France have known what to expect. In addition to the prestige of a stage victory or a distinctive jersey, each success on the Tour de France comes with its own bonus. Here's what you need to know.
First of all, among the overall prize money of €2.578 million reserved for this 112th edition, €500,000 is promised to the winner of the yellow jersey in Paris. For the riders ranked 2nd to 19th overall, a decreasing bonus is offered (from €200,000 to €1,100). And for the rest of the peloton to rest assured, all the riders placed from 20th to last place will receive €1,000 each at the finish. Not a lot, it's true, after three weeks of effort on the bike... So you have to look for the money elsewhere on the road to top up your end of July.

The prize money reserved for the riders of the 2025 Tour de France at the end of each stage:
- 1st: €11,000
- 2nd: €5,500
- 3rd: €2,800
- 4th: €1,500
- 5th: €830
- 6th: €780
- 7th: €730
- 8th: €670
- 9th: €650
- 10th: €600
- 11th: €540
- 12th: €470
- 13th: €440
- 14th: €340
- 15th to 20th: €300
Additionally, a portion of the overall prize money for the 2025 Tour de France will be allocated to the winners of the distinctive jerseys. Thus, the wearers of the green jersey (points classification) and the white jersey with red polka dots (best climber) will each earn €25,000 in Paris. The prize money is slightly lower for the winner of the white jersey for best young rider (riders under 25) and for the rider elected most combative: €20,000.
The gains reserved for the green jersey in Paris | White jersey with red polka dots | White jersey for best young person |
1st: €25,000 | 1st: €25,000 | 1st: €20,000 |
2nd: €15,000 | 2nd: €15,000 | 2nd: €15,000 |
3rd: €10,000 | 3rd: €10,000 | 3rd: €10,000 |
4th: €4,000 | 4th: €4,000 | 4th: €5,000 |
Note that the combativeness prize awards a bonus of 2,000 euros to the lucky winner at the end of each stage. It's therefore worth the "cost" to slip into the breakaway and "show the sponsor" by multiplying attacks... to convince the jury called upon to vote for the fighter of the day. And that's not all, the 2025 Tour also includes "special bonuses." For the 50th anniversary of the white jersey with red polka dots, the first rider to total 50 points in the mountains classification will receive 5,000 euros. Attention to the bold! During the 14th stage, the Jacques Goddet Memorial Prize will offer the same amount to the first rider to cross the summit of the Col du Tourmalet in first place. 5,000 euros will also be the amount of the Henri Desgrange Memorial Prize, at the top of the Col de la Loze on the 18th stage. Finally, at the end of the 21 stages of the Grande Boucle, 3,000 euros will be paid to the unsung rider elected "best teammate" by a jury of specialists.
As you can see, there's something for everyone when it comes to the prizes, some more tempting than others, on the Grande Boucle. Obviously, not all riders are chasing the yellow jersey all the way to Paris. Some make stage victories and other distinctive jerseys (green, white, white with red polka dots) their personal goals. To pad their record and also to offer bonuses to their respective teams.

The latter then generally agrees to have the money redistributed equally to his teammates and the technical staff, who are essential to his success every day.
