Tour de France: How much will the winner of the 2025 edition receive?

Tour de France: How much will the winner of the 2025 edition receive?

During the 112th edition of the Tour (July 5-27), the best prize will be reserved, as usual, for the person who brings the yellow jersey back to Paris.

Honor to the yellow jersey. On July 27th on the Champs-Élysées, the rider who wins the Tour de France will pocket the largest prize from the overall prize pool of €2.578 million reserved for this 112th edition. The winner of the Tour de France will thus collect the tidy sum of €500,000. The second-place finisher in the general classification will "only" win €200,000 and the third-place finisher, €100,000. These prizes are similar to those of the 2024 edition, dominated by Tadej Pogacar ahead of Jonas Vingegaard , the Slovenian and the Dane being the favorites again this year.

Behind the final podium, riders placed up to 19th overall will each receive a decreasing amount of prize money. Finally, €1,000 will be reserved for each participant who finishes the race between 20th and last place.

Let's note, however, that these prizes pale in comparison to those offered to tennis players competing in Wimbledon, the London Grand Slam that takes place every year at the same time as the Tour de France. For example, a player eliminated in the first round on the London grass will pocket €77,400 (!), while the winners of the tournament (men and women) will see €3.5 million fall into their coffers. This is a sum higher than that won (€2.55 million) at Roland-Garros by Coco Gauff and Carlos Alcaraz, winners this year. €2.55 million, or five times more than the €500,000 promised to the winner of the Tour de France...

Departing from Lille this Saturday, July 5, the 184 riders won't all be chasing the yellow jersey in Paris. Some will make stage victories and the other distinctive jerseys (green, white, white with red polka dots) their personal goals. This will enhance their record and also provide bonuses for their respective teams.

Since, during the Tour de France and more generally all major cycling races, the winning prizes or distinctive jerseys are first distributed to the team of the rewarded rider in question. The latter then generally agrees that the money be redistributed equally to his teammates and the technical staff, who are essential every day to his success.
