By Le ParisienThe 88th edition of the Tour de Suisse will reach its finale this Sunday, June 22. The 8th and final stage of the cycling race takes place on a 10 km climb with an elevation gain of 830 m between Beckenried and Stochütte.
With a 33-second lead over Portugal's João Almeida (UAE Team Emirates), Kévin Vauquelin (Arkéa-B & B Hotels) could become the third Frenchman to win the Tour de Suisse. He would end a 28-year wait following Christophe Agnolutto's victory in 1997. As for the first French winner, we have to go back to ancient times, to 1935 to be precise with the success of Gaspard Rinaldi.
If he wins, the Norman will also become the first Frenchman to win a World Tour stage race in 18 years. The last winner was Christophe Moreaux, who won the Critérium du Dauphiné in 2007.
The 8th stage of the Tour de Suisse, a 10.1 km time trial between Beckenried and Stockhütte, can be followed this Sunday, June 22, on L'Équipe and Eurosport 1 from 3:05 p.m.
