Accident in Vatoliere, a witness emerges: "He tried to avoid an elderly man crossing the street. Then the crash."

New details are emerging regarding the serious accident that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Vatoliere area, in the municipality of Barano d'Ischia, where a man between 30 and 40 years old was seriously injured and taken to Rizzoli Hospital with critical condition. The incident was clarified by a firsthand account gathered from someone who was standing just a few meters behind the scooter involved at the time.
"We were driving down the road after the Piedimonte roundabout. He was in front of us, traveling about 50-60 kilometers per hour," said one of the first people to help him. An elderly man was crossing the road from a side street. The motorcyclist, trying to avoid him, first tried to pass behind him, but the elderly man suddenly changed direction . At that point, to avoid hitting him, the young man swerved sharply, lost control of the vehicle, and crashed into a low wall, violently hitting the left side of his body.
"The helmet hadn't come off ; we only removed it afterwards, with the help of a nurse who happened to be passing by, to put it in the safety position ," the witness added. After the incident, the elderly man left the scene of the accident before help arrived.
Meanwhile, at Rizzoli Hospital , the medical team is performing a delicate initial emergency procedure to contain some internal bleeding. The man's condition remains extremely serious. Only after this phase has been completed will a transfer to a more well-equipped facility on the mainland be considered, which, given the criticality of his clinical condition, now appears inevitable.
