Gemini acts alone with programmed actions, how it works

Who hasn't thought to themselves, " I have to remember to check my emails tomorrow morning, " or " I absolutely have to make my dentist appointment on Monday ." From now on, you can simply tell Gemini and it will take care of it. Google has launched scheduled actions , a feature that transforms the assistant from a simple chatbot to a real personal assistant, who acts even when we are not there.
These are more than just reminders. Gemini can now perform complex tasks at scheduled times , generate recurring content, and even provide personalized updates without having to ask every time.
A few months ago, OpenAI introduced a similar feature on ChatGPT , Tasks . But Google’s version seems more integrated into the company’s ecosystem of services, which could be a big plus. While ChatGPT is mostly limited to processing and presenting information, Gemini can potentially interact with Calendar, Gmail, Maps, and other Google services .
How Gemini's Scheduled Actions WorkThe concept is simple. You tell Gemini what you want it to do and when, and it remembers. You can use natural language, like “ Every Monday, summarize my calendar and unread emails when I wake up .” You can schedule actions for specific times, days of the week, after certain events, or even just once.
The function uses a system of cards that show the status of each action: completed, paused, active. You can manage up to 10 actions at the same time , modify them or delete them at any time through a dedicated section in the settings.
The possibilities are endless, but here are a few examples that show the potential:
For work: “ Every Friday at 5pm, give me a weekly summary of current projects .” Or “ On the first of every month, give me an analysis of trends in my industry .”
For creativity: “ Suggest three social media topics to me every Wednesday .” Instead of running out of ideas, you’ll always have fresh ideas.
For personal organization: “ Every Sunday evening, summarize next week’s commitments for me .” A perfect way to mentally prepare for what lies ahead.
What makes scheduled actions special is not just the “when,” but the “what.” A reminder says “remember to do X.” A scheduled action does that thing directly for us. Gemini can look up up-to-date information, process it, present it in the format you prefer, and even adapt it to the context. If you ask for updates on your team, it will not only give you the results, but can include statistics, analysis, and future prospects.
Additionally, each action takes your geographic location into account when creating it, so if you schedule something that depends on your time zone, Gemini will automatically use the correct one.
AvailabilityFor now, the planned actions are reserved for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as some Google Workspace business and education plans. It's not yet clear whether the feature will also come to free users, but Google has done so with other new features in the past.
The rollout will be gradual. Google is rolling out the feature starting today, but it may not appear for everyone right away. On your phone, you’ll get push notifications when Gemini completes an action, while on the web, you’ll see updates right in the app.
To schedule an action, just speak normally: “ Gemini, every morning at 8 am send me a summary of the most important tech news .” He will automatically understand that you want to create a recurring action and will configure it.
