Pope Prevost made his first surprise outing: he returned to greet people at the Palazzo del Sant'Uffizio where he lived.
Pope Leo XIV returned last night to the place where he has lived since 2023, the Palazzo del Sant'Uffizio. He greeted people in the courtyard, had his picture taken with them and finally gave everyone a simple blessing.
JOHN PREVOST: «ROB KNEW HE WOULD BE A PRIEST FROM THE TIME HE LEARNED TO WALK»
Meanwhile, on the other side of the ocean, his brother John speaks for the first time since the election of Leo XIV. "It was a shocking moment. I was on the phone with my niece and we couldn't believe it. Then my cell phone, iPad and home phone went crazy." This is how John Prevost describes for the first time to the media the moment of his brother Robert's election as pontiff.
Leo XIV, the youngest of three children, raised by a father who was a school superintendent and a mother who was a librarian in the southern suburbs of Chicago. "We had a normal childhood. It's a little strange, but all three of us knew what we wanted to do from an early age," said the 71-year-old former principal of a Catholic school.
“Rob knew he would be a priest from the time he could walk,” John said. “A neighbor once told him he would one day be Pope. That was a good prediction, right?” The pontiff’s brother said they spoke on the phone the night before the conclave began and discussed the possible name he would choose if he were elected Pope. “I told him not to choose Leo because he would be 13th, but he apparently did some research,” he explained.
