Ustica, Abbate: "Military leaders were lying. There is silence from politics"
Abbate reconstructs the many testimonies, also collected by the journalist Andrea Purgatori who interviewed a soldier serving on the Saratoga: he confirmed the presence of the aircraft carrier in the Italian seas. "There is the silence of politics but also a lot of reticence like that of the Air Force pilot Domenico Del Gaudio who is aware of the facts about the massacre but refuses to report them to the magistrates. The military leaders lied, politics did little, the families grieved more and more but did not give in and continued to seek the truth".
Tobagi: “For the government transparency is not a value. No to acts of faith in democracy”
Tobagi also intervenes on the Security decree: "It expands the guarantees for the secret services in the name of national security (it already happened with Renzi). These guarantees do not have an expiration date, they last decades. But from a historical perspective there must be some control", especially "in a country like Italy. If the past is not recognized, we must ask ourselves questions. And for this government, transparency is not a value. The Executive and the government have not responded on the Paragon case. The a posteriori control is a sieve. However, we are asked to sign another blank cheque: in a democracy you don't have to make acts of faith, we know that this thing is dangerous".
Abbate: “Unknown and protected culprits”
Abbate recalls that "today the magistrates write that the DC-9 was shot down by a war in peacetime but they also ask to close the investigations for lack of collaboration with other states that could be involved. The culprits are unknown , they are protected: it is not a fixed point, it is an indictment"
Filippi: “Laws against the freedom to demonstrate? Why going to the square works”
Filippi and the Security Decree : "The government has sunk the possibility of identifying the police, which was instead the best thing. I want to know if there are any bad apples. And do you know why they make laws against the freedom to demonstrate? Because demonstrating works. It is a freedom that we must defend".
Abbate and the Ustica victims without justice
The events in the Salmon room of the Arena del Sole resume with the reading “Ustica: victims without justice. August 2, 45 years later” by Lirio Abbate . In the audience is Daria Bonfietti , president of the association Relatives of the Victims of the Ustica massacre, who has been fighting for years to ask for the full truth about the massacre in which 81 people died.
Filippi: “Why talk about anti-fascism? Its opposite walks within us”
Why talk about anti-fascism today? “Because its opposite walks within us,” explains Francesco Filippi . “We are in a crisis of democracy, it seems that the shortcuts are the same as they once were, it is said that perhaps we should put someone in charge, give simple answers to complex questions. It doesn’t work but it sells,” says Filippi.
