Riding in the Emmaus cooperative to overcome anxieties, insecurities and fears. The Riding courses of the Volta High School

Not just university students from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Bari. The courses for approaching equine breeds at the Emmaus cooperative also include high schools in the city and the region.
The training courses included in the “Sole e giustizia” project presented by the “A. Volta” Scientific High School of Foggia, curated by the school principal, Professor Ida La Salandra, are called Riding and Riding2, in response to the 2024 FSE+ Notice, Educational and training courses for the enhancement of skills, inclusion and sociality during the summer suspension of lessons in the 2023-2024 and 2024-2025 school years within the National “School and skills” Program 2021-2027 Priority 01 – School and skills (ESF+) – European Social Fund Plus – Specific objective ESO4.6 – Action A.4A – Sub-action ESO4.6.A.4A.
The objectives that the two courses aim to achieve are different. First of all, the aim is to gradually bring the students closer to contact with horses to get to know them, learn to take care of them and lead them, in full respect of the animal and its needs. Among the objectives are those of trying to overcome anxieties, insecurities and fears, creating a relational climate, promoting socialization and collaboration between classmates. The courses aim to encourage self-confidence, improve the self-esteem of students by making them always feel protagonists, active and involved, improve the coordination of their body and static and dynamic balance (agility - rhythm - balance - posture), promote space-time coordination as well as teach respect for the rules of work shifts and the animal.
The courses are structured in modules of 30 hours each for which two figures are foreseen: an expert and a tutor and foresee the participation of 20 students belonging to different classes of the Institute.
Specifically, the “Riding” module has as its tutor Professor Annarita Tricarico, while the “Riding2” module has as its tutor Professor Michele Chinni. Both have as their expert Professor Mario Scelsa, identified by the Emmaus Community who was entrusted with the task of their implementation.
