Trump Announces Tariffs for 14 Countries, Europe Waits

Donald Trump has announced new tariffs for 14 countries. They will be applied starting next August 1st to all goods imported into the United States. They will replace those introduced during Liberation Day on April 2nd and temporarily suspended for 90 days on April 9th. The rate imposed on the European Union will be known by tomorrow.
There is still time for an agreementOn April 2, tariffs were announced for over 180 countries. A week later, Trump decided to suspend the application (except for China) for three months, maintaining the basic rate of 10%. Last night, the President of the United States signed another executive order extending the suspension deadline to August 1.
He later shared on Truth Social the letters sent to 14 countries indicating the tariffs that will be applied. The order of publication is related to the percentage of imported goods. The first two letters are addressed to Japan and South Korea. The other countries are Malaysia, Kazakhstan, South Africa, Laos, Myanmar, Tunisia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Serbia, Cambodia, and Thailand.
The rates are more or less the same as in April and range between 25% and 40% . All the letters state that the duties are to offset the trade deficit (the United States imports more goods than it exports). For example, cars, machinery and electronic devices come from Japan and South Korea, while precious metals come from South Africa.
Trump warns countries that they must not increase their tariffs, or the rate will be doubled. The tariffs can be reduced or increased based on future trade agreements. They will be eliminated if companies produce in the United States. There is time until August 1 to find a mutual solution, as already done by the United Kingdom, Vietnam and China (only on rare earths ).
