University of Foggia: 900 students enrolled in the filter semester for Medicine and Dentistry

With nearly 900 students enrolled, the University of Foggia is inaugurating the introductory semester for admission to Medicine and Dentistry , one of the main innovations introduced by the national reform, which has surpassed the traditional entrance exam. The data, made official today at the close of registration, confirms the University of Foggia's leading role in the Italian medical and healthcare education landscape, further strengthened by its prestigious placements in the Censis 2025 ranking, where the single-cycle master's programs in Dentistry and Medicine rank second and third, respectively, nationally, tied with historic universities such as Bologna.
Classes begin on September 8th: all in-person.Teaching activities for the transitional semester will begin on September 8, 2025, at the "Città del Cinema" multi-screen cinema, which will offer modern and functional spaces for lectures, exercises, and practical activities. Teaching will be entirely in-person , a clear and courageous choice by the University, which aims to ensure an immersive, hands-on, and high-quality learning experience, unlike other universities that have opted for blended or distance learning.
Rector Lorenzo Lo Muzio emphasizes the strategic significance of this initiative: "To make the University of Foggia a driver of development through excellent healthcare education, capable of generating skills, services, and opportunities. Medicine is not just a discipline: it is an act of responsibility towards the community and the younger generations."
A logistical and educational challenge, but also a great opportunityThe transition semester will feature mandatory classes from Monday to Thursday, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and optional afternoon sessions until 5:00 p.m., focusing on the core subjects of Chemistry, Physics, and Biology . The program, worth 18 credits , will conclude with two national final exams (November 20 and December 10) that will determine official admission to the degree programs. The national ranking will be published by the Ministry on January 12, 2026 .
Those who do not have available places may still enroll in one of the related courses included in the registration process, even if they are oversubscribed.
Serviddio: "A renewed and multidisciplinary course"Professor Gaetano Serviddio , Rector's Delegate for Strategic Healthcare Policies, highlights the University's commitment to a growing competitive environment: "In a landscape where new medical programs are emerging, from Lecce to Potenza and Benevento, Foggia is increasing its enrollment and strengthening its attractiveness. This will also be an organizational challenge: this is why we have completely revamped the program, making it more multidisciplinary, humanistic, and technological. The city must prepare to welcome these young people, because today more than ever the goal is to retain them and build the future of our healthcare system with them."
Success also for the specialized schoolsThe University of Foggia's success extends to postgraduate studies as well: 249 candidates participated in the latest competition for Specialization Schools in the healthcare sector. Currently, 37 schools are active , offering highly professionalizing programs in the main clinical, surgical, and healthcare services areas.
The University of Foggia thus confirms its position as a growing center, not only in terms of numbers and rankings, but also in terms of vision, commitment, and ability to meet the new challenges of the Italian healthcare system.
