Maria Giovanna Zanella wins the 24th Cairo Prize

The young artist Maria Giovanna Zanella wins the 24th edition of the Cairo Prize with the unpublished work 'Buoni' during the inauguration evening at the Museum of the Permanente in Milan. The winning work was chosen by the jury chaired by Bruno Corà, president of the Palazzo Albizzini Foundation Burri Collection of the City of Castle, assisted by highly authoritative experts of the art world. Maria Giovanna Zanella, born in Schio in 1991, in her artistic practice, which includes both painting and sculpture, investigates physicality as a place of vulnerability and friction, as well as passion, desire and drives, as the work shows created for the Cairo prize, entitled Buoni. It is about a wood-fired bread sculpture depicting a set of elements that recall fleshy masses, anatomical fragments, so as organic fossils or magmatic concretions. The different qualities of flour and yeast used, and the variable temperatures of the specially constructed oven, have determined combinations of color, density and texture in wide unpredictable parts, with a formal and symbolic outcome that manages to synthesize the immediacy of primitive art with the complexity of contemporary excesses. The opening night with the award ceremony for the young artist, who wins a prize of 25 thousand euros and whose work becomes part of the Cairo Prize Collection, it is available from Tuesday 14 October on corriere.it, in streaming from the prestigious exhibition venue of the Museo della Permanente in Milan.
