Three urban installations by Bottazzi at the Map Festival in Taranto

Three urban installations by Bottazzi at the Map Festival in Taranto

In a marriage between archaeology and contemporary art, the National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (MArTA) hosted the official presentation of 'Disegno vuotò, an artistic project by Peter Bottazzi - an internationally renowned designer, set designer and architect - for the Map Festival (Music, Architecture and Parallelisms). The initiative took place inside the monumental staircase of the museum, chosen as an exhibition space for its symbolic and architectural value. The installations, three in total, were placed in significant places of Taranto culture: in addition to the MArTa, also the former Mandese bookshop in via D'Aquino and the Feltrinelli bookshop in via Di Palma.

"Every place has its own identity - Bottazzi explained - and my works want to create voids that are actually full of vibrations, memory, rhythm. Spaces that stimulate the eye to look beyond, in a continuous interaction between past and present. I worked on an idea of superimpositions, on existing elements, but also historical ones". The director of MArTA, Stella Falzone, underlined the importance of the collaboration with the festival: "The museum - she observed - is not only the custodian of the ancient, but an active part of the cultural present of the city. These installations contribute to making MArTA a living place, open to dialogue with the contemporary".

"The beauty of the Map Festival - added Piero Romano, co-artistic director of the event - is bringing art where you don't expect it. Bottazzi's works invite you to reflect, to stop, to grasp new readings of the urban and cultural landscape of Taranto".
