Hello (at least for a year) Euro 5 diesel cars in Emilia-Romagna

Bologna, 8 July 2025 – Green light for the postponement of the Euro 5 diesel ban to 2026 also in Emilia-Romagna: an amendment approved by the Infrastructure Decree .

The new regulation therefore postpones the deadline for the structural limitation on the circulation of Euro 5 diesel cars and commercial vehicles for Piedmont , Lombardy , Veneto and Emilia-Romagna from 1 October 2025 to 1 October 2026, while at the same time providing that the limitation should be applied as a priority to road circulation in urban areas of municipalities with more than 100,000 inhabitants, rather than 30,000.

Emilia-Romagna was the only region in the Po Valley not to ask for the ban to be revoked.

According to Codacons , the one-year postponement of the ban on Euro 5 diesel cars will save 1.3 million vehicles registered between 2009 and 2015 which, starting next October, would have been 'illegal' and would not have been able to circulate within large municipalities between 8.30am and 6.30pm .

After the deadline of 1 October 2026, the Regions may also disregard the inclusion of the structural limitation on the circulation of 'Euro 5' vehicles in the air quality plans by adopting compensatory measures suitable for achieving levels of reduction of polluting emissions consistent with the constraints deriving from European legislation.

"If the regions implement alternative measures," explains Riccardo Molinari , the leader of the Lega in the Chamber of Deputies, the first signatory of the amendment, "the blockade can be avoided completely . They will have more time to organize themselves and find a way to reduce pollution without banning the circulation of certain vehicles."

Great satisfaction, the MIT reports, from the deputy prime minister and minister Matteo Salvini , who was the first to guarantee interventions to modify the bans: ''It is a common sense choice '' adds Salvini.

Which are the cities with more than 100 thousand inhabitants in Emilia-Romagna?

In Emilia-Romagna the cities with more than 100 thousand inhabitants are the capital Bologna , then Modena, Reggio Emilia, Parma, Ravenna, Rimini, Forlì and Piacenza .

“There are a dozen municipalities in Emilia Romagna, such as Cesena, Carpi, Imola, Sassuolo, with less than 100 thousand inhabitants that are definitively freed from crazy restrictions resulting from the ideological legislation of the European Union”, comments the Emilian MP of the League Laura Cavandoli.
