Mini cabin bags for smart travellers

We're increasingly traveling "lighter" to our destinations, carrying only the bare essentials , thus avoiding being overcharged by airlines or forced to wait in long check-in lines. This is what a study conducted by the international price comparison portal Idealo revealed. The study analyzed purchase intentions for "cabin items" made on its Italian portal between June 2024 and May 2025, comparing them with those for the same period a year earlier.
Thus, it turns out that, despite the general inflationary pressure recorded over the last 12 months, searches for "cabin luggage" have increased by an average of 38.5%. Specifically, the average price increase for "backpacks over 44 liters" and "cabin shoulder bags," of 10.5% (from €143 to €158) and 9% (from €55 to €60), respectively, coincided with increases in online searches of 87% and 127%, respectively, on an annual basis. Interest in "backpacks under 44 liters" has also grown by 40%, while that for "cabin trolleys" and "backpacks under 20 liters" has increased by 87% and 10.5%, respectively.
In addition to carry-on luggage , items related to outdoor living and beach holidays are also highly sought after. Comparing purchase intentions expressed online between May 18 and June 16, 2025, with those collected between April 18 and May 17, 2025, "pool inflatables" grew by 181%, "stand-up paddleboards" by 82%, "mules" by 60%, and "rock shoes" by 41%. Essentials include "wide-brimmed hats" (+57.9% between June 17 and July 16 vs. the previous month), "fisherman's hats" (+57.7%), and "fanny packs" (+32%). Finally, "credit card wallets" (-8.7%) and "classic wallets" (-9.6%) are declining, now supplanted by e-wallets for digital payments.
