Ryanair celebrates 2 million passengers on the Trieste-London Stansted route

Ryanair, Europe’s and Italy’s No. 1 airline, today (8 July) celebrated 2 million passengers on its popular Trieste-London Stansted route. Ryanair’s journey at Trieste-Ronchi dei Legionari Airport began in 2001. Since then, the airline has grown significantly, adding domestic and non-domestic routes, generating traffic, jobs and tourism growth, also thanks to the farsighted decision of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region to eliminate the municipal surcharge, which has allowed Ryanair to further increase its capacity and unlock the region’s full tourism potential.
Friuli Venezia Giulia was the first Italian region to reduce access costs to become more competitive by eliminating the municipal surcharge, a measure that generated significant growth in terms of traffic, tourism and employment. Thanks to the far-sighted decision of President Fedriga and the collaboration with the management of Trieste Airport, Ryanair responded by adding 2 aircraft, 10 new routes, doubling traffic (+100%) and supporting over 800 total jobs since the surcharge was abolished. Abruzzo and Calabria followed this example, unlocking their full potential and improving the connectivity of their respective territories.
The Trieste – London Stansted route is just one of a total of 21 routes operated by Ryanair at Trieste Airport for Summer 2025, which includes a record schedule with 35% growth, 3 new and exciting routes to Lamezia, Prague and Stockholm, as well as increased frequencies on 9 existing and very popular routes including London Stansted itself, but also Barcelona, Bari, Cagliari and Olbia. In addition, Ryanair has based an additional aircraft (equivalent to an investment of over $100 million), supporting over 800 jobs in the region.
Ryanair's operations at Trieste Airport for summer 2025 include:
- 1 additional aircraft based (2 in total – US$200m total investment)
- 3 new routes – Lamezia, Prague, Stockholm
- 21 routes in total
- 1.1M passengers per year
- Support for over 800 jobs in Friuli Venezia Giulia
To celebrate 2 million passengers on the Trieste–London Stansted route, Ryanair has launched a promotion with fares starting from just €21.99 to travel on the Trieste–London Stansted route until the end of October. The offer is already available on ryanair.com (while seats last).
