Transport: Two strikes planned for July 25th, disrupting trains and local buses.

The transport sector is preparing for two days of labor unrest, with strikes affecting both rail and local public transport, both nationally and locally.
A national strike called by Filt-Cgil Fit-Cisl, Uilt-Uil, Ugl, Fast, and Orsa Trasporti is planned for July 25, 2025. It will involve Elior staff, Polaris division, who provide reception and escort services on Trenitalia's Intercity night trains .
The strike will cover the first half of the work shift, from 4:00 PM on July 25th to 3:59 PM on July 26th. Staff at the STP company in Terra d'Otranto, in the Lecce area, will also be on strike for local public transport.
The reasons for the strikeA very hot weekend is expected, with, unfortunately, some disruptions to public transportation in various cities across the country, from North to South. The reasons are linked to working conditions and railway contracts, a sensitive issue for workers in the sector. Another key issue is the lack of agreement on the renewal of the railway workers' contract , which expired over two years ago.
While the main unions (Filt-Cgil, Uiltrasporti, Ugl Ferrovieri, Fast-Confsal, and Orsa Ferrovie) have signed the agreement, the unions CUB Trasporti and USB have chosen not to join, deeming the agreement insufficient. They are therefore calling for a wage adjustment more in line with the cost of living and greater protection of working conditions.
These two demonstrations demonstrate the growing tensions in the transportation sector, with workers demanding concrete responses from companies and institutions regarding procurement, safety, hours, and job stability. The protests reflect a widespread unrest that risks prolonging itself.
Users are advised to consult the timetables and information provided by the companies involved in advance to avoid travel disruptions, especially on peak days.
How to request a refundThere's no news yet regarding refunds , but more will be announced in the days immediately following Friday's strike. However, the rules are the same as for all other strikes: for Intercity trains , refunds can be requested up to one hour before the booked train's departure. Alternatively, it's possible to reschedule the trip, subject to seat availability on subsequent trains and under the same travel conditions, at no additional cost.
To initiate the procedure, the traveler must prove that the train was actually affected by the strike , in order to be entitled to a full refund , by referring to the official statement issued by the railway companies. It is advisable to keep the ticket and monitor official channels for any updates.
The local public transport strike in OtrantoAt the same time, a regional strike called by RSA USB Lavoro Privato will take place on July 25th, involving the staff of the STP company in Terra d'Otranto, in the Lecce area. The strike will last four hours, from 4:30 PM to 8:30 PM .
Here too, the demands focus on contractual conditions and the critical issues of local public transport.
