The do-it-yourself choice

A “sovereignist choice”, the news has called it, signed by Minister Schillaci because on issues such as health, the “nations” (as the government calls them in the 19th century) must have a free hand. The choice to abstain, criminal and reckless, is not surprising from a government that flirts with the anti-vax and that has within it a force like the League that is asking to leave the WHO. The amazement remains for the fact that someone like Orazio Schillaci, who is a valuable doctor, a recognized academic and who has also signed important scientific studies, would sign such an ugly thing, but so it is.

No agreements to get what is needed to stop viruses

Why does Italy want to keep a free hand. Free from what? The text of the Plan is anything but a dispossession of individual States. On the contrary. There is no mention of provisions that allow the WHO to intervene in health policies (from closures to vaccination campaigns), but only of cooperation in research, in the transfer of technologies necessary for prevention, of agreements to obtain and disseminate what is needed to stop the pandemic. In short, if, and this is not a good thing, the WHO has had to sacrifice its prerogatives on the concrete things to do on the altar of sovereignty, the entire matter of the development, purchase and dissemination of vaccines (for example) is the responsibility of the global network.

They forget about Covid

Moreover, only those with a short memory or one shortened by prejudice do not remember that it was the vaccines that stopped Covid 19; that countries, like Italy for example, would have received them much later than what happened, that the costs have dropped a lot because they are managed globally in Europe. They also do not remember that the Chinese were clever and hid the epidemic for weeks, the time needed for the coronavirus to invade the world. Yes, the Chinese. Precisely those who are now pumping money into the WHO, orphaned by the American contribution.
