On June 28th in Locri the event to celebrate the first year of the Italian Naval League campaign

Twelve 'boats of legality', 10 ports of eastern Sicily reached, 600 children and adults with fragility and disabilities embarked together with school children, scout groups and associations involved in social work, 13 sections and delegations of the Italian Naval League involved and over 100 volunteers from the Lni at the service of the activities. These are the numbers of the third edition of 'Vela & Salute', a solidarity initiative of the Italian Naval League with Arnas Garibaldi of Catania, created with the aim of promoting social inclusion on board sailboats confiscated from organized crime and raising awareness of thalassemia and blood donation. The grand finale on June 21 in the waters of Catania, with 7 boats that gave life to choreographic cinematic formation maneuvers for an evocative goodbye to the fourth edition of 'Vela & Salute', which will begin on May 8, 2026 on the occasion of the International Thalassemia Day.

'Vela & Salute - explains a note - is one of the main projects of the national campaign of the Lni 'Mare di Legalità', which started on June 28, 2024 from Ostia in the presence of the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella with the naming of the first 8 'boats of legality' in memory of some victims of the mafia and terrorism: the names and faces of these 'heroes of legality' are depicted on the mainsail of the boats and their stories reported on a banner displayed on the dock during stops in port. The Lni will celebrate the first year of the 'Mare di Legalità' campaign on June 28 at 10.30 with an event at the headquarters of the Naval League of Locri (via Lungomare, 89044 South Side). In the morning, there will be a naming ceremony for the sailing boats Cicci and Ezio, a Bavaria 49 and a Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 49, rescued from migrant trafficking, which will be dedicated to the memory of the entrepreneur Vincenzo Grasso and the vice president of the Regional Council of Calabria Francesco Fortugno, victims of the 'Ndrangheta. The two boats will thus become part of the 'fleet of legality' of the Naval League, which currently includes 25 vessels operating along all the Italian coasts in cultural, sports, social and environmental protection projects.

The Locri event, organized by the Lni of Locri in collaboration with the Customs and Monopolies Agency, will be joined by the 'boats of legality' Eva I (Naval League of Reggio Calabria), named after Commander Natale De Grazia, Blue Angel (Ln of Messina), dedicated to the lawyer Nino d'Uva, and Lion (Ln of Sant'Agata di Militello) associated with the trade unionist Placido Rizzotto. The 5 boats will go out to sea with children and young people in socio-economic hardship on board, followed by the 'Punti luce' of San Luca and Platì, of Save the Children, an organization with which the Lni collaborates at a national level.
