"Protection from conception to death". The draft law on end-of-life sparks controversy

The government majority has decided to present a bill on the end of life , a topic that has been discussed for years without finding a political solution. But once again the right-wing draft law is causing controversy and the Democratic Party is clear: " There is a lot to review in this proposal ." Yesterday at the end of the meeting of the restricted committee, the Lega senator Giulia Bongiorno - reports Il Corriere della Sera - presented the text shared by the center-right . It provides for the establishment of the Ethics Committee , which will be appointed by Prime Ministerial Decree, therefore by Palazzo Chigi, excludes that the health service provides the service , provides that the helper (who facilitates the execution of the suicide) is not punishable and obliges the Regions to make palliative care available.

"There is an introductory article - says Bongiorno - that wants to clarify that here we are not opening the way to suicide and that anyone can commit suicide whenever they want . Next week the text will be presented to the commission for the start of the discussion". The opposition, however - continues Il Corriere - accuses the centre-right of providing constraints to make the use of this measure more complicated. And the insertion at the beginning of the text of a passage on the " protection of life from conception to death " generates suspicion in M5S and Avs that rights such as the right to abortion are being undermined . But there is also another point that the opposition does not like: rejected requests will no longer be presentable for four years .
