Elisabetta Fedegari, 44, describes herself as "shocked and dismayed."
Pavia – “A painful journey in my life that has deeply affected me and deeply saddened me.” Elisabetta Fedegari, 44, struggles to elaborate on a difficult time in her life that led her to report sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior from a member close to the leadership of the Brothers of Italy party. For these reasons, too, after “careful reflection,” the lawyer made the decision yesterday to leave the party. “I immediately informed Brothers of Italy of what was happening to me,” she says, “ and unfortunately, their reaction was one of detachment and disinterest . I never expected this from a party that protects and defends these values. Harassment of women, unfortunately, is a highly topical issue today. A party is almost like a family context; if a member reports a problem, I didn't think it would be underestimated and given very little consideration by those who want to promote themselves as champions of certain values.” Fedegari speaks of a "total lack of support and concrete action in this circumstance, which represented a profound wound and a clear indication of the lack of regard for the well-being and dignity of its members."

An attitude that left Elisabetta Fedegari "stunned and dismayed." And it's not the only reason for her departure. "I have been saddened by the total lack of solidarity and due process toward me in relation to the legal incident in which I am currently implicated," notes Fedegari , who is accused of embezzlement in the Clean I investigation . "The lack of any human or political support or sympathy from local representatives, and beyond, at a time of personal difficulty, has heightened my sense of isolation and my distrust of the values the party claims to uphold." And there is also a political reason for her departure. "The party has never valued me or rewarded the work I've done in the community, where I've contributed votes and consensus since joining," she adds. "Despite my contribution (in the last regional elections, Elisabetta Fedegari received 4,234 votes, finishing behind Claudio Mangiarotti, who was elected to the council), I've been marginalized. At this point, I believe I've made the right decision."
