Milan, 24 June 2025 - The Nidi Gratis Plus 2025 – 2028 measure has been approved in Lombardy. The resolution of the Lombardy Regional Council, on the proposal of the Councillor for Family, Social Solidarity, Disability and Equal Opportunities, Elena Lucchini, allocates 60 million euros . In 1943, during the Second World War, declarations to the registry offices of the Municipalities counted 100,547 births. Eighty years later, certifications have collapsed : 65,659 in twelve months (Cgia Research Office based on Istat data). There are 34,888 fewer in Lombardy due to inflation and the high cost of living compared to the war period. In most provinces, births have fallen by less than half: 7,357 in Bergamo, 8,624 in Brescia, the same number that in 1943 reached 16,156 and 18,242. Almost a third of 80 years ago in Como (3,748 against 9,584), Cremona (2,232 compared to 6,396), Mantua (2,578 instead of 6,969) and Sondrio (1,132, 3,271 in '43). Halved in Pavia (3,251 compared to 6,474), while Varese (5,503 against 7,153) and Milan (21,916 instead of 26,302) contain the crisis in a region that is discovering itself to be older: in 2033, according to Istat, the over 65s will be 2.8 million (+20.7%), the over eighties 897 thousand (+18.2%).
