Giuseppe Conte criticizes Netanyahu's conduct and calls for sanctions

During an electoral meeting in Triggiano, Giuseppe Conte, leader of the Five Star Movement, expressed strong criticism of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. According to Conte, the real issue is not so much the figure of Netanyahu, but his conduct, which he defines as “criminal.” The political leader emphasized that the security guaranteed by a technologically advanced army cannot justify actions that expose Jews around the world to a growing climate of hatred.

Condemnation of acts of violence

Conte clarified that he had never spoken out against Israel, but had always condemned the actions of the Netanyahu government. Following the murder of two staff members of the Israeli embassy in Washington, the politician expressed his shock and described the event as a “horrific attack.” He reiterated the importance of preventing acts of violence and stressed that the victims were innocent people, brutally murdered.

Request for sanctions and embargo

The M5S leader proposed drastic measures against the Israeli government, suggesting a total embargo and financial, economic and diplomatic sanctions. He highlighted how Italy, unfortunately, has not taken a strong position at the UN, refraining on several occasions from censoring Israeli actions. Conte highlighted the gravity of the situation, speaking of an “ongoing genocide” and the need to stop the conduct of Netanyahu’s government with all means available.
