The prime minister's words on the Milan investigation: "I believe the mayor should make his decisions based on his ability to govern effectively. But I won't change my position based on the suspect's political affiliation."
On the same topic:
" I think the judiciary should take its course, but I'm not changing my mind. Regarding the mayor, I've never been convinced that a notice of investigation automatically leads to his resignation, and I don't change my position based on the political affiliation of the person under investigation ." These are the words Giorgia Meloni chose to use to comment on the investigation into Milan's urban planning , which has implicated Mayor Beppe Sala's administration and led to the mayor himself being placed under investigation. This is the first position taken by the prime minister, who had not yet expressed her opinion on the Milan case.
Still addressing the resignation scenario, Meloni added on Tg1: "I believe these are choices the mayor should also make based on his ability, in this scenario, to govern effectively." This differs from the position expressed by the Brothers of Italy party in Milan, whose city councilors have called for Sala's resignation and the dismissal of the council. And from a right-wing party in general that, in this specific case, has seemed to be riding a wave of judicialism (with a few exceptions, such as Forza Italia and Maurizio Lupi ).
