Post with Goebbels, Bolzano city councilor resigns

Goebbels' quote costs Diego Salvadori his seat as city councilor in Bolzano, who resigns after the controversy . Salvadori communicated his decision in the presence of the mayor Claudio Corrarati , who two days ago during a private meeting had asked him to take this very step back.

"The flag does not follow the people, it is the people who must follow the flag. Joseph Goebbels, Minister of Propaganda of the Third Reich", Salvadori wrote on his social media, regarding the display of the rainbow flag at Noi Techpark. The councilor then deleted the post and clarified that he repudiates "in the most absolute way any type of totalitarian regime". However, the apologies were not enough to calm the waters and so today he resigned.

"I asked Salvadori to demonstrate that from the wrong words we can move on to the right actions," Mayor Corrarati said in a press conference.

"I made a communication error by using a quote linked to a personality that I myself, as well as history and humanity as a whole and the democratic conscience of the entire Italian political spectrum have condemned. I made a mistake, I underestimated, I apologized, but it wasn't enough for those who wanted to be cruel," added Salvadori.
