Road safety, Salvini rejoices: with the new code, victims decrease by 8.7% and injuries by 5.6%

In the first six months since the entry into force of the new highway code strongly supported by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Matteo Salvini , the data collected by the Highway Police and Carabinieri are confirmed as comforting: -8.7% deaths (55 fewer, from 634 to 579), -5.6% injured people (1,115 fewer, from 20,075 to 18,960). In general, the drop in accidents is 4% (1,423 fewer, from 35,209 to 33,786). The numbers take into consideration the period 14 December 2024 - 14 June 2025 compared to the previous year.
From the point of view of controls, it should be noted that in the six months since the new code came into force, there have been 417,663 breathalyzer or precursor tests, and the positive results were respectively 1.83% for alcohol and 0.25% for drugs , proving that road safety and prevention campaigns are having satisfactory effects. This was reported by the Ministry, in full and usual coordination with the Ministry of the Interior.
