Runoff in Bolzano: polls open, challenge between Corraratti and Andriollo. With the unknown Svp

Runoff in Bolzano: polls open, challenge between Corraratti and Andriollo. With the unknown Svp

The day of truth has arrived in Bolzano. Today's runoff (polling stations open until 10 p.m.) could give a new political current - from the center-left to the center-right - to the northernmost provincial capital of Italy.

Running for the mayoral seat are Claudio Corrarati , supported by the center-right forces, and Juri Andriollo , candidate of the center-left and outgoing councilor. In the first round, a clear victory for the center-right with Corrarati ahead by a good nine percentage points.

There are two unknowns: voter turnout (the appeal was launched by governor Arno Kompatscher himself and obviously by the candidates) and what the electorate of the Suedtiroler Volkspartei will do.

In the past, the SVP had indicated to support the center-left candidate, but in this runoff it preferred to declare itself “blockfrei', or outside the blocks . At the provincial level, the 'Alpine Star' party is in government together with the center-right forces. In favor of Corrarati, the association of artisans and hoteliers. In the event of a victory for Corrarati, it would be the first time in the post-war history that the city of Bolzano has a center-right mayor.

The other run-offs

In Trentino-Alto Adige the inhabitants of Merano , Arco , Avio , Borgo Valsugana , Cavalese , Cles , Mori , Novella , Pergine Valsugana , Riva del Garda , Ville D'Anaunia and Volano will go to the ballot.
