Storm in the Region: Councilor Elvira Amata also investigated for corruption

Storm in the Region: Councilor Elvira Amata also investigated for corruption

Eyes on the Schifani council: also in the crosshairs the president of the ARS Galvagno and his spokesperson

PALERMO – Judicial turmoil is shaking the Sicilian Region. Regional Tourism Councilor Elvira Amata, a member of Fratelli d'Italia, is formally under investigation for corruption in one of the strands of a broader investigation that also involves the president of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Gaetano Galvagno, and other entrepreneurs and collaborators.

According to what has emerged, the investigations would have begun in September 2023, and Councilor Amata would have received a notice of extension of the investigations last January, with a new deadline set for March 27, 2025. The magistrates would be examining a dense network of relationships and alleged favors that, according to the prosecution's hypothesis, would involve political exponents and key figures in the regional administrative machine.

One of the central names in the investigation is Giuseppe Martino, a trusted man of the councilor, former Deputy Chief of Staff, and appointed Private Secretary last January. Already in the early stages of the investigation, his name frequently recurred in the investigators' files, confirming a possible key role within the alleged corruption system.

The waters in the staff of the president of the ARS are no less turbulent. Sabrina De Capitani, spokesperson for Galvagno and also under investigation for corruption, resigned in recent days. Summoned by the magistrates for questioning, she chose to avail herself of the right to remain silent, a sign that her position could be particularly delicate.

The investigation, which is still in the preliminary phase, promises significant developments in the coming months. The Region is watching with apprehension the evolution of events, in a political context increasingly marked by internal tensions and by a public opinion that demands transparency and legality.
