Tomasi's civic list. The names of potential candidates emerge.

Florence, July 26, 2025 – Talk of official candidate lists is prohibited, as the center-right's Tetris of nominating aspiring governors for this fall's regional elections has yet to resolve. It's now well known that the green light in Tuscany for Pistoia's mayor , Alessandro Tomasi of the Brothers of Italy party, is closely tied to the tug-of-war between Giorgia Meloni and Matteo Salvini over Luca Zaia's successor in Veneto. Therefore, it's still necessary to talk about unofficial candidates within the center-right . This should be expanded to a "president's civic list," at Tomasi's behest. One name that's been circulating for quite some time is that of Massimo Sabatini, a city councilor in Palazzo Vecchio on the Schmidt list. He's already effectively signed up. But candidates for Florence's "candidates" are now also starting to circulate. Starting with Lorenzo Bosi, president of the Rondinella company, with a political background as a former district councilor until about twenty years ago. Nutritionist and television personality Valentina Guttadauro is also said to be increasingly close to Tomasi's civic project, along with Francesca Caroti, who was already on the Eike Schmidt list for the local elections last June but failed to cross the threshold of the Salone de' Dugento.
The Melonian coordinator's formula has already proved successful locally , sweeping the Pistoia administrative elections for the second time in a row, avoiding a runoff. Naturally, then, Tomasi is trying to convince his allies of the need to broaden the front, seeking to tap into moderates from civil society and disillusioned center-left voters. He's enlisting the help of former Rignano mayor Daniele Lorenzini, who no longer wants to be associated with the Democratic Party. However, resistance has been mounting for weeks from the League and Forza Italia (including a segment of the FdI), worried about seeing their votes and preferences stolen from a list comprised of profiles already orbiting the center-right. "This way Tomasi isn't broadening the front, he's narrowing it," the coalition laments, compounded by anxiety about the electoral threshold, according to the electoral law that establishes access to the regional council for coalition forces that receive 3% or more of the vote.
