6 out of 10 Italians use AI to communicate in other languages

AI increasingly supporting language skills of Italian workers. DeepL, translation platform based on intelligence itself artificial, conducted a nationwide research, carried out by YouGov in March 2025, which involved over 1,000 local employees and managers. Among those who use AI-based translation tools, six 60% of professionals say they feel more confident in communicating in a foreign language. Furthermore, 31% report an improvement in internal communication, and one in five (19%) attributes to these tools a role in supporting expansion into new markets. "Languages ​​should never represent an obstacle to innovation or growth. Almost one in three Italian workers (29%) declares using a foreign language at work at least once a month. English is the main one (92%), followed at a distance by French (18%), Spanish (14%) and German (5%). The research reveals a certain gap between the different roles: if 49% of managers use regularly at work a foreign language, the percentage drops to 26% among other employees. For many professionals Italians, being able to communicate in other languages ​​is not just a competence, but a key to access various opportunities: more 72% believe that knowledge of foreign languages influences professional growth: for 37.5% it is a factor decisive, while for 34.5% it is crucial to access some specific roles. Even the youngest professionals express a greater sensitivity to the issue: approximately half (49%) of those under 45 say that language difficulties limit the global potential of their companies, versus 44% of the over 45s.
