Gratteri, AI in foreign hands is a risk for Italy and Europe

"The risk is that we will feed machines, software that are not Italian property whose domain is not in Italy or in Europe". This was stated by the Attorney General of Naples, Nicola Gratteri, at the end of the conference 'Artificial intelligence and the new challenges to justice and internal and international security' held at the Palace of Justice.
"We only have two or three people who currently own artificial intelligence in the world, starting with Elon Musk. So, I don't feel absolutely safe or at ease, unless Europe has the will, the strength, the vision to build its own machines to then dominate," the prosecutor explained.
"For artificial intelligence to work, we need to feed it every day. And so we deliver our data to this machine that is not in Italy or in Europe and over which we do not have control. And this - for Gratteri - is the dangerous thing that we need to think about. There is not only crime in the world, but also economic interests of centers of power, of multinationals, of other States: it is not just a question of organized crime or terrorism. But there are also other concerns: our data can be managed or manipulated by other centers of power that are not necessarily the mafias".
