Colapinto, accident during testing in Budapest: Alpine destroyed, rider in hospital

Franco Colapinto suffered an accident without serious consequences during the second day of tire testing in Budapest. The Argentine Alpine driver—who replaced Jack Doohan in the French team's single-seater in May—went off the track and crashed into the wall at Turn 11. The car was destroyed by a violent impact, and the 22-year-old was taken to the hospital for medical checks.

According to Alpine, Colapinto is fine and did not suffer serious injuries, but he still crashed violently into the barriers, which ended the test for him and the team. "During the second day of Pirelli tire testing at the Hungaroring, Franco Colapinto was involved in an accident at Turn 11. He was examined at the medical center and is doing well," a statement from Alpine, which took part in the test with McLaren, Racing Bulls, and Ferrari.

Attention is now focused on tyre development for next season: the sole supplier will have to communicate to the FIA by September 1st which compounds it will use for 2026.
