Galliani returning to AC Milan? Here's what's true.

Galliani returning to AC Milan? Here's what's true.

The buzz is powerful, fueling discussions among fans—on social media and in bars—and likely having the same effect at number 8 Via Aldo Rossi in Milan. It's a topic that's growing in intensity and rumors day after day because, after all, Adriano Galliani's possible return to AC Milan would be sensational news.

A scenario currently based on two certainties. The first is that we're still in the realm of hypotheticals, meaning nothing is written down on paper for now. On the other hand, it couldn't be: if the second wedding actually takes place, the former AC Milan CEO must first complete the process for the sale of Monza. That means the actual closing with Beckett Layne Ventures, the US fund that acquired the Brianza club from Fininvest. The second certainty, however, is that something is definitely brewing. There are valid reasons to understand more if it's true—and it is—that Galliani and Cardinale met in person in recent weeks for a chat that can hardly be dismissed as a mere courtesy call. A conversation that may have been facilitated by Flavio Briatore, a close friend of Galliani and professionally connected to RedBird, AC Milan's controlling shareholder and among the group of investors who acquired a 24% stake in Alpine F1, led by Briatore himself.

The question hinges on how thorough the meeting was. Was it a meeting to sniff each other out and evaluate each other, a bit like Cardinale did with Ibrahimovic, or have the foundations truly been laid for a Galliani rematch? The Rossoneri fans are obviously voting yes, imagining that the former director's presence could, for example, resolve issues of the club's "political clout" in the football arena, and at the same time act as a guide in the transfer market. But we need to be clear from the start: if this scenario were to materialize, Galliani wouldn't replace anyone. Scaroni would remain president, just as Furlani would remain CEO. Let's say a personal role would be created, a sort of super-consultant. Perhaps tied, like Ibrahimovic, directly to RedBird and not to AC Milan. These seem like details, but they aren't, because there are delicate balances at stake, and it's reasonable to think that, within the club, some would welcome him with open arms and others less so. Let's just say that the importance and reach of the figure might not make it entirely easy for him to get onto the fourth floor of Via Aldo Rossi. These are all possibilities that need to be verified later, but in the meantime, AC Milan is considering it. And yes, the appeal is truly compelling for a club trying to reclaim its core identity.
