Maradona, trial annulled for judge who filmed secret documentary about his death

Maradona, trial annulled for judge who filmed secret documentary about his death

The judges of the Court of San Isidro (Buenos Aires) have decided to annul the trial for the death of Diego Armando Maradona following the scandal over the making of an unauthorized documentary involving one of the three members of the same court.

A few days ago, in fact, it was discovered that one of the three judges who were supposed to issue the sentence, Julieta Makintach, was filming an unauthorized documentary about the trial, in which she would have been the protagonist. It was supposed to be called “Justice of God”, a clear reference to Maradona’s nickname, D10s, and to the “Hand of God” of the legendary goal against England. Six episodes were planned and some shots were also taken in the courtroom, with hidden cameras.

The decision was announced by Judge Maximiliano Savarino, one of the three members of the tribunal. The judge explained the decision by stating that "Judge Julieta Makintach - involved in the making of an unauthorized documentary - did not intervene impartially" and that "her conduct caused damage to both the plaintiff and the defense."

The trial on the death of Diego Armando Maradona, which began on March 11, must therefore be redone.

There are seven defendants: the health workers in charge of Maradona's care, accused of manslaughter and risk a sentence ranging from 8 to 25 years in prison.

Maradona died on November 25, 2020 in an apartment in Tigre, near Buenos Aires, two weeks after being discharged from a clinic in La Plata following surgery, with the prosecution claiming that medical staff acted inappropriately and deficiently.
