Parma, Venezia, and Como reach the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia.

Parma, Venezia, and Como reach the round of 16 in the Coppa Italia.

The second weekly tranche of the Coppa Italia round of 32 smiles on Parma, Venezia and Como , who eliminated Spezia, Verona and Sassuolo respectively. Two of the three matches, the one at the Tardini and the one at the Bentegodi, ended on penalties. Thursday Genoa-Empoli (6.30pm) and Torino-Pisa (9pm).

Parma-Spezia (2-2, 6-5 on penalties)

It took a penalty shootout to determine Bologna's opponent in the Coppa Italia round of 16, scheduled for December. After a 2-2 draw in regulation time, Cuesta's Parma defeated Spezia 6-5 from the penalty spot. Ordonez scored the decisive penalty for the Crociati, while errors by Soleri and Lapadula weighed heavily on Spezia. Despite a less-than-memorable performance, the home team thus secured qualification. The scorers in the ninety minutes were, in order, Britschgi, Aurelio, Pellegrino, and Lapadula.

Verona-Venice 0-0 (4-5 on penalties)

Venezia defeated Verona 4-5 on penalties and will face Inter in the round of 16. After a 0-0 draw in regulation time, Lella's decisive penalty, following Ebosse's miss, gave Stroppa's men the win in the Veneto derby at the Bentegodi Stadium. This confirmed the crisis for Zanetti's men, who have yet to score a goal in the first ninety minutes this season. There was little drama during the match, which was suspended for 17 minutes in the second half due to rain and hail.

Como-Sassuolo 3-0

Como easily dispatched Sassuolo with a resounding 3-0 victory and advanced to the Coppa Italia round of 16, where they will face Fiorentina. At the Sinigaglia stadium (with proceeds donated to the city after the lake floods), Como, even without Nico Paz, sealed the game in the first half, then controlled the game in the second. Como took the lead in just 90 seconds when Douvikas capitalized on a Pieragnolo error to feed Jesus Rodriguez, who beat Turati with a right-footed shot to put Como ahead. Fabregas's men nearly doubled their lead when Posch's shot from the edge of the area was tipped out for a corner by Turati. Douvikas then made it 2-0 shortly after, with a precise header from a Baturina free kick. Sassuolo failed to respond, and the Neroverdi instead eased Como's lead with yet another error in the build-up. Iannoni, in fact, had the ball stolen from him on the edge of his own penalty area by Caqueret, who passed it to Jesus Rodriguez who, all alone, beat Turati to seal his personal brace and the 3-0 for Como, a goal that definitively sealed the game before half-time.
