Premier Padel in Rome: Lebron-Stupa pass to the quarterfinals with a thrill. Chingalan stroll

The victory is there, the promotion is not, not even remotely. Because the 6-3 4-6 6-3 with which Juan Lebron and Franco Stupaczuk defeated Javi Garcia and Javi Barahona in the eighth finals of the BNL Italy Major left one feeling in particular: if they want to aspire to win their first major tournament together, the world number 3s must raise their level (a lot). And above all they cannot allow themselves certain distractions , like the one in the tenth game of the second set that cost them the break and the obligation to resort to the third, or the others scattered over two hours in which they almost never managed to impose their superiority.

Indeed, if Barahona had not missed a sort of penalty with an empty net for the 2-0 in the decisive set, Lebron and Stupa would have been forced to chase already at the start of the third and perhaps the Roman Major would find itself having to deal with the first big surprise of the 2025 edition. Instead, the Spaniard netted the comfortable break volley and the danger avoided served as a wake-up call to Juan and Franco, who in the following game found the decisive break, then maintained - not without some suffering - until the end. But, as mentioned, the victory on the Centre Court left more doubts than certainties, not exactly the ideal viaticum to take to Friday, when the difficulty bar promises to rise even higher. In front of them, the two will find the fifth pair in the world, Jon Sanz and Momo Gonzalez , who with a double 6-4 overcame Maxi Sanchez and Alex Ruiz , ruining the birthday party of the latter (31 years old today).

Unlike Lebron and Stupa, it was all easy for the reigning champions Ale Galan and Federico Chingotto , who reached the quarterfinals after a 47-minute jog against the Italian-Argentine Denis Perino and the Spaniard Mario Huete , who reached the eighth finals as lucky losers. The many energies – physical and mental – left in the intense day of Wednesday took their toll on the two outsiders, down 6-0 , 6-2 against a god who didn't leave them a centimeter of space to make an impact. For the " Chingalan ", on Friday there will be the world number 12 pair, Alex Arrojo and Inigo Jofre , the Spaniard who plays for the United Arab Emirates. In the morning the two eliminated Campagnolo/Sager , unable to propose the padel that had cost Cardoba/Augsburger their elimination.
