Arezzo, May 21, 2025 – Scuola Basket Arezzo is one step away from the national finals of the Under 15 championship. The Arezzo team, competing in the highest youth level of Excellence, had won the Tuscan title with twenty-four wins in twenty-six games played and had thus earned qualification for the Interzona phase where the best teams emerging from the different regions challenged each other in a high-level match to snatch the pass for the final act of the season. The Under 15 New Silver Car played on equal terms against the youth sectors of Serie A clubs, with the bitterness of seeing the dream of the tricolor vanish a few seconds from the sound of the siren.
The Interzona in the Ferrara Cento saw Sba debut against Città Futura Roma and, after closing the first quarter at a disadvantage of 23-33, give life to an exciting comeback until the final victory of 99-92 with great protagonists Filippo Bettini and Matteo Branchetti who were authors of twenty-six and thirty-four points respectively. The second match allowed the boys of the Under 15 New Silver Car to experience the emotions of playing with a "noble" of Italian basketball like Olimpia Milano who had the better of the Arezzo team by 62-90, thus making the clash with Reyer Venezia decisive for the passage to the national finals in Agropoli. The regulation time of the third and final match ended with the score of 59-59 which made it necessary to resort to overtime where the Sba team maintained the advantage for a long time but was overcome with a counterattack in the final seconds that allowed the Venetians to set the final score at 66-68. This defeat in the last game does not affect the exceptional season experienced by this team that allowed the Arezzo club to celebrate the first Tuscan Excellence title in its history and to compete on equal terms with the most prestigious teams in Italian basketball. "The epilogue of the season was bitter and unfair - commented coach Umberto Vezzosi, - considering that in the last game we missed twenty-three free throws and then committed a naivety in losing the ball a few moments before the siren. I would like to renew my compliments to the boys for their commitment, determination, growth and the results achieved that, for our club, are unprecedented: they have shown that they can compete with the best Italian teams and have laid solid foundations for the future".
