London, 5 July 2025 - There is a Spaniard in Jannik Sinner 's path at Wimbledon . No, obviously we are not talking about Carlos Alcaraz , who the South Tyrolean will eventually meet in the final. It is Pedro Martinez , number 52 in the world rankings. The Spaniard, after having barely defeated the host George Loffhagen in the first round in the fifth set, prevailed 3-0 (7-5, 7-5, 7-6) over the Argentine Mariano Navone . Sinner's path was more peaceful, having knocked out his compatriot Luca Nardi and the Australian Aleksandar Vukic , conceding just 12 games and not even a set to his opponents. The odds are obviously on the side of the Italian, who however is not confident: "My team is ready, the third rounds in the Slams are important. In this tournament there have already been several surprises and we must remain focused. I feel like I'm on a good path but I can still improve a couple of things", the words of the 2001 class.

The only precedent

Up to this point, Sinner and Pedro Martinez have faced each other only once. The previous one dates back to 2022, when the two played against each other in the match valid for the first round of the Italian Internationals. The one to celebrate the success was our standard-bearer, victorious by 6-4, 6-3.

Sinner's record at Wimbledon

Sinner achieved his best result at Wimbledon in 2023, when he managed to reach the semifinals, then lost to Novak Djokovic 6-3, 6-4, 7-6. Also in 2022 it was the Serbian who eliminated the Italian, but in the round of 16 and at the end of a much more hard-fought match (5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2). In 2021, however, the native of Candido failed to get past the first round, as he was defeated by the Hungarian Marton Fucsovics with a score of 5-7, 6-3, 7-5, 6-3. Last year it was Daniil Medvedev who interrupted the run of our standard-bearer in the quarterfinals, with the Russian celebrating the success with 6-7, 6-4, 7-6, 2-6, 6-3.
