World Games: Simone Barbieri wins gold in archery at Chengdu

The Italian delegation won six medals on the penultimate day of the World Games in Chengdu , China. Simone Barbieri was a key figure, capping a remarkable run in the bare-bow tournament with a gold medal triumph over Australian Simon John Fairweather in the final. Cinzia Noziglia, meanwhile, took silver, having been defeated in the final of the women's draw by France's Alicia Baumert.
Andrea Chiapello also came close to the title, advancing in bocce to the top spot on the petanque podium, where he was defeated 29-25 by Beninese Marcel Gbetable. The Italian thus took silver, just like the aerobics trio of Davide Nacci, Francesco Sebastio, and Sara Cutini.
Alessandra Cernigliaro's weightlifting performance rounded out the day's results, performing well among the equipped middleweights, lifting a total of 565.0 kg and taking home the bronze medal. Only American Taylor Lynn Lachapelle, who took gold with 640.0 kg, and Ukraine's Larysa Soloviova, who took silver with 622.5 kg, outperformed her.
With one day to go before the World Games, Italy sits in fourth place in the World Games medal table (which also includes Paralympic podiums) with 56 medals (13 gold, 24 silver, 19 bronze). Hosts China remain in first place, ahead of Germany and Ukraine.
