Following the accident, some of the vehicles involved caught fire, and the wreckage was left on the road, making it necessary to close it to traffic after the incident.
Firefighters, Civil Protection, Capufe, and other authorities fought the flames and then proceeded to clean up the road to reopen it to traffic.
At around 7:00 p.m., approximately 10 hours after the tragedy, the road was cleared for vehicular traffic.
A photograph, now open to traffic, shows the aftermath of the tragedy. Black marks from the flames that ignited the vehicles' fire can be seen on the walls and top of the tunnel.
Likewise, marks from the vehicles' movement and other objects left at the side of the road were still visible on the asphalt.
