From Ferraz without love

"It's your mission if you decide to accept it," and Leire Díez, like Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible, accepted. She says it wasn't plumbing, it was to write a book. If you've never suspected that Mr. Rajoy could be Mr. Rajoy, you might swallow this, but even the suspension of disbelief has limits. We can believe something that isn't true, but at least we demand that it be credible, and Leire Díez's isn't. We can concede—especially after seeing Ethan Hunt in action in his films—that the world of the spy is incredible and that Leire Díez's work was no coincidence: there was a vocation in that woman.

In some overlooked television footage, PS0E-007 appears recommending a book by Daniel Silva to Miquel Iceta. How unsubtle: Silva is the greatest living spy novelist. Could there be a coded message on page 92? Did the book self-destruct five seconds after Iceta touched it? Anything is possible.

Only the worst thrive, they are there, no matter what happens, guarding votes or organizing suicide missions.

When a spy mission fails, the government disowns its agents and aborts the mission. Consider the tragic fate of the members of the A-Team, another elite force gone awry. I venture to imagine the scene in which a PSOE official decides to go down into the sewers to play the same game the others were playing and, given the mission, suggests: "Leave it to Leire." Clap, clap, clap. Moments in which the negative selection of parties displays all its splendor: only the worst thrive, they remain, they are there, no matter what, guarding votes or organizing suicide missions.

Ethan Hunt risks his life every five minutes, but fortunately, he ends up saving the world. He sacrifices—much to his chagrin—his personal life for ideals without sparing any price. Hunt is unbearable in that superman-like solvency. It's hard to identify with him, even with Tom Cruise. On the other hand, being Koldo, Leire, or Aldama seems more within reach. It's enough to be mediocre, corrupt, trolls, and clumsy. One has already been in their homes and in their lives without needing to visit them. There's nothing beautiful about them. That's why they're spies. To have the opportunity to be someone else and redeem themselves on a mission, but they always make mistakes, and the air-conditioning tunnel they choose to escape is the one that leads to the latrines.
