Stepfather of murdered 12-year-old girl linked to drug dealing, says Harfuch

Stepfather of murdered 12-year-old girl linked to drug dealing, says Harfuch

Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection Omar García Harfuch reported that the stepfather of the 12-year-old girl murdered in her home in Chalco, State of Mexico, was involved in drug dealing, which is what led to the attack.

"The information we have at the moment is that the minor's mother's partner is involved in drug dealing. When the attackers arrive looking for the minor's mother's partner, the individual managed to escape, as they were after him, and the attackers killed the girl," he said.

Regarding the case of the 5-year-old boy who was murdered by his captors because his mother couldn't pay a thousand-peso debt, Secretary García Harfuch noted that yesterday the State of Mexico Attorney General's Office announced the creation of a new specialized care unit "where 300 officers will be assigned to provide better service to prevent a similar situation from happening again."

According to figures from the Executive Secretariat, during the month of July, the State of Mexico recorded 113 intentional homicides, representing 5.6% of the total number of intentional homicides in the country.

However, García Harfuch reported that through coordinated actions with local authorities, such as Operation Swarm, Atarraya, Liberation, and Operation Mando Único Oriente from September 2024 to July 2025, the State of Mexico has recorded a 45% reduction in the daily average of homicide victims .
