The construction work on L8 will force the closure of a section of Muntaner Street in Barcelona starting this Sunday for more than a year.

It will affect 13,000 vehicles that circulate every day between Laforja and Marià Cubí streets.

Barcelona's Muntaner Street, between Laforja and Marià Cubí, will be closed for 13 months starting this Sunday . The reason: construction work on an emergency exit for the extension of line 8 of the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGC), from Plaça Espanya to Gràcia.

In total, the closure will affect 13,000 vehicles that travel along this stretch every day. The closure will also be extended to Avenir Street starting in December.

To reduce traffic congestion, the direction of Amigó Street between Via Augusta and Travessera de Gràcia has been changed . Furthermore, capacity has been increased on Via Augusta to Balmes, which now has two lanes in each direction.

The closure will also affect public transport. The Barcelona Metropolitan Transport (TMB) bus line V13 , which runs through Muntaner, will be diverted via Carrer de Madrazo, Carrer Amigó, and Carrer Travessera, returning to its normal route.

The construction of L8, being carried out by the Generalitat (Catalan government), will connect the Vallès and Llobregat-Anoia FGC lines . It will also improve public transport coverage in the city.

This project, which represents an investment of more than 400 million euros , includes the construction of a four-kilometer tunnel and three new stations: Hospital Clínic (interchange with Line 5), Francesc Macià (interchange with the tram), and Gràcia (FGC). Two existing stations will also be remodeled, and two emergency exits will be built.
