The defense and its stance

Although the sentence has been issued, both Agüero and his defense attorney, Gustavo Nievas, continue to maintain his innocence.

Nievas claimed he found no evidence of her involvement, while the nurse maintained her innocence and described the case as a "media scandal."

The tragedy of the Neonatal

Between March and June 2022, a tragedy occurred at the Neonatal Hospital of Córdoba, where five babies lost their lives and thirteen others were injured.

The study found the presence of unwarranted compounds in the bodies, indicating deliberate action.

Brenda Agüero, after serving three decades in prison, lived with her mother and sisters. She excelled as a nursing student and had an "obsession" with working in the neonatal unit.

Nievas stated that regarding Agüero, "no one saw her touch a baby." He added: "If a baby had a health problem, she would inform her superiors. A syringe was never found in her possession. Her responsibility was to care for the mothers, not to administer injections to the babies. The only thing they witnessed was that she handed the babies to their mothers when they requested it," he indicated.

Arrested in August 2022, she expressed emotion during the trial when referring to her family, but remained unfazed by the accounts of the victims' mothers, whom she even challenged.

Liliana Asís, the former director of the Neonatal Hospital, was found guilty and sentenced to five years in prison along with a four-year special ban from holding any public office. Meanwhile, three doctors were found not guilty.
