Arajet and IATA sign agreement to install Turbulence Aware

Dominican airline Arajet signed an agreement with the International Air Transport Association ( IATA ) for the implementation of Turbulence Aware , a tool designed to improve real-time turbulence management .
Turbulence Aware collects anonymous turbulence data on flights operated by participating airlines . These accurate, real-time reports help pilots and flight dispatchers minimize the effects of turbulence and plan flight routes more smoothly and efficiently.
Arajet CEO and founder Victor Pacheco Mendez said the agreement with IATA represents a further step in its commitment to "offering a more comfortable, safe, and efficient flight experience " for all passengers.
Meanwhile, IATA 's regional vice president for the Americas, Peter Cerda , expressed his satisfaction with Arajet's decision to participate in Turbulence Aware .
"With each additional airline that contributes data, we improve the real-time information we provide to flight crews, helping them mitigate the effects of turbulence . It's also positive to see another Americas-based airline join the platform," he added.
The agreement was formalized during ALTA's Aviation Safety and Flight Operations Summit , held in Mexico City.
What is Turbulence Aware ?IATA launched Turbulence Aware in 2018 to help airlines mitigate the impact of turbulence , which remains a leading cause of passenger and crew injuries.
Currently, the IATA Turbulence Aware Platform has more than 28 airlines contributing and consuming data across more than 2,800 aircraft. In 2024, airlines participating in Turbulence Aware generated a total of 51.8 million turbulence reports, a significant 35% increase compared to 2023.
IATA Turbulence Aware data is also made available to meteorological offices for turbulence model validation and development, as well as to academic institutes for research purposes.
