CNBV intervenes in CIBanco and Intercam, and the ABM issues a statement on the matter.

MEXICO CITY.- This Thursday, the Governing Board of the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) decreed the temporary management intervention of CIBanco and Intercam , following accusations of money laundering by the United States government.

"The intervention aims to replace their administrative bodies and legal representatives in order to safeguard the rights of these institutions' savers and clients, given the implications that the measures announced by the United States Department of the Treasury may have on these banks," the CNBV stated.

The Mexican Banking Association (ABM) reported that the intervention by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) of Intercam and Cibanco following allegations of money laundering by the United States does not represent a systemic risk nor does it affect the stability of the Mexican financial system, which remains solid and well-capitalized.

"The announced intervention seeks to create an environment of certainty that allows institutions to operate normally for as long as necessary to ensure they comply with regulatory standards. This measure provides clarity and stability without disrupting the regular operations of the banks in question," the agency explained in a statement.
