Electricity rates: a 2.82% increase for users in the AMBA region has been approved in June.

Electricity rates: a 2.82% increase for users in the AMBA region has been approved in June.

The Government authorized this Tuesday a 2.82% increase in electricity rates for Edenor and Edesur , which provide service in the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires ( AMBA ), through resolutions 400 and 401/2025 issued by the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE), published in the Official Gazette.

The approval of the new June tariff schedules for energy distributors comes within the framework of the energy emergency , extended until July 9, 2026, and the continuation of the Transition Period toward Targeted Energy Subsidies, promoted by the national government to advance the restructuring of the subsidy system.

The electricity tariff update has the approval of Economy Minister Luis Caputo, who, in a note sent to the Energy Secretariat, stated that it was "imperative to continue correcting the relative prices of the economy, including the prices and rates for the natural gas and electric power sectors."

In this same note, he recalled that "the rates corresponding to the electricity transmission and distribution segment must be increased based on the results of the five-year tariff reviews ," so the increase would apply to this case, according to his judgment.

In this case, the June adjustment was calculated based on April's variations, which were 2.83% for the IPIM and 2.78% for the CPI. Therefore, the percentage adjustment to the Own Distribution Cost (ODC) for the distributors Edenor and Edesur is 2.82%. This calculation is the basis for the percentage increase in Edesur and Edenor electricity bills for AMBA users.

With the new scheme in place, the discounts for residential users in Level 2 (65%) and Level 3 (50%) remain in place . Subsidized consumption has limits, and then the full rate is paid: low-income users (L2) have a limit of 350 kWh per month, and middle-income users (L3) have a limit of 250 kWh.

Starting in June , natural gas rates will be adjusted again. The government decided to raise the surcharge intended to finance subsidies for cold-weather areas , from 6% to 6.20% . The measure was made official this Monday through Resolution 718/2025, published in the Official Gazette. The increase directly impacts the price paid by all users in the country.

The additional amount is allocated to the Trust Fund for Residential Gas Consumption Subsidies. This mechanism allows users in regions with lower temperatures, such as Patagonia, to access a differential rate that will be covered by all regions of the country that will experience this increase in their bills.
