Fourth suspect charged in attack on Senator Miguel Uribe

The Attorney General's Office announced this Friday that it has charged a fourth person for his alleged involvement in the attack on Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay , who was shot by a minor on June 7 at a political event in Bogotá.
The defendant is William Fernando González Cruz, alias "El Hermano" or "El Viejo," who is charged with attempted aggravated homicide; manufacturing, trafficking, carrying, or possessing firearms and ammunition; using minors to commit crimes; and concealing, altering, or destroying material evidence, the Prosecutor's Office reported in a statement.

González Cruz did not accept the charges and, at the request of the prosecuting authority, will remain in prison while the judicial process proceeds.
With the prosecution of a fourth person who allegedly participated in the planning and subsequent actions of the attack, the Attorney General's Office is making progress in its investigation into the attack against Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay.

According to the investigation, the accused allegedly participated in the planning of the attack, including the location and selection of the minor who shot Uribe Turbay , who was injured while giving a speech to dozens of supporters in a park in the Modelia neighborhood, west of the capital, as part of his political activity ahead of the 2026 presidential elections.

He is also accused of having parked in a vehicle near the scene of the attack to facilitate the escape of other suspects , as well as having sold one of the cell phones used in coordinating the attack in order to divert the attention of the authorities.
With González Cruz, four people have now been formally charged for their alleged involvement in the attack. His arrest had been anticipated by local media, which released images of his capture this Thursday in Bogotá .

Minutes after the attack on the senator, the gunman was arrested, a 15-year-old boy who had a Glock pistol in his possession, and last week the Prosecutor's Office presented two other alleged perpetrators, Carlos Eduardo Mora and Katerine Martínez , as "co-authors."
Meanwhile, Uribe Turbay " continues fighting for his life ," said his wife, María Claudia Tarazona , in a message in which she thanked the medical team for " the titanic effort to keep Miguel alive ," for whom dozens of people have been holding a permanent vigil in front of the clinic since the day of the attack.
